Description

Australian Peptides supplies Bacteriostatic Water 3mL as a laboratory diluent. Each vial holds 3mL of sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, and we ship from Australian stock. This product is strictly for laboratory use only, and not for human or animal use, consumption, or therapeutic use.

What Bacteriostatic Water 3mL contains

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with a preservative added. The preservative here is benzyl alcohol at 0.9%, and it suppresses bacterial growth in the vial after the stopper has been pierced. Plain sterile water carries no preservative, so it suits a single withdrawal only. Therefore researchers who plan several withdrawals from one vial generally reach for the bacteriostatic version instead.

The 3mL format suits small-scale work. Because each withdrawal shortens the usable life of the vial, a smaller vial often wastes less than a larger one. In addition, a smaller volume limits the consequences of a contamination event.

Note that benzyl alcohol does not suit every preparation. Some proteins aggregate in its presence, as one study of a reconstituted lyophilised formulation recorded on PubMed describes. Therefore check your protocol before you settle on a diluent.

Reconstituting lyophilised peptide

Wipe the stopper with an alcohol swab before each withdrawal. Then draw the volume your working concentration requires. For example, adding 2mL to a 10mg vial gives 5mg/mL.

Direct the stream slowly down the inside wall of the peptide vial rather than onto the powder itself. Then swirl gently until the solution clears. Never shake the vial, because agitation can shear peptide chains and degrade the sample.

Storage and shelf life

Store unopened vials at room temperature and away from direct light. After the first withdrawal, most manufacturers give a 28-day window for the remaining contents. Afterwards, discard the vial rather than stretching its use further. Researchers commonly order it alongside BPC-157 10mg and GHK-Cu 50mg.

Bacteriostatic water reconstitutes most lyophilised peptides, including our retatrutide products R3TA 10mg (retatrutide) and R3TA 20mg (retatrutide). Our guide to storing research peptides in Australia explains reconstitution and cold-chain handling once a vial is opened.
